St Ishmael's Church, Carmarthenshire

Address: St Ishmael's Road, Ferryside. SA17 5UL This ancient church is situated on St Ishmael's Road Ferryside. It is on the ancient Canterbury - St David's pilgrimage route which has seen a revival in recent years. There has been a place of worship on this site for over a thousand years and St Ishmael's is the mother church. Although there are now only a few houses in the vicinity of the church, it attracts a small but healthy congregation and many visitors especially during the summer months. Many years ago there was a community below the church, where part of the sea is now but in 1607 the village was submerged by subterranean volcanic activity along the Bristol Channel.
